Feeding the cats on demand is as easy as sending an email, while feeding them on a schedule is as easy as creating an IFTTT applet. If you find this series of posts interesting, you might also enjoy the automatic cat laser pointer toy series! You should have a configured Raspberry Pi ready to go. This guide was pretty straightforward and got me up and running in no time.

I chose to build this using copper piping had to match our boho theme. This plant holder was re-purposed to be a dry food dispenser stand. The small square in the middle was sized to fit the base of the dispenser firmly, then copper piping was built around it.

Ahead of the game? Part three covers rotating the servo motor, and part four is all about connecting the Pi and motor to the dispenser. Say Hello! We primarily feed our cats wet food during the day, and dry food via the automated feeder as a midnight snack. If you calculate that out with I think the website measurements are a bit misleading: for example, a box of cereal may have a net weight of I hope this was helpful, and thanks for reaching out! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hey Sam this looks great I have a pi and have tried my hands at 4 different projects with no success… I hope you can help me make this my first good pi project… Question if I use a breadboard could I connect jumper cables to the board and then the motor to the board as well? Any time I follow a guide I work through it start to finish. My advice: take small, manageable steps toward completion. Things you can wrap your mind around. For example, I started by hooking up the motor to the Pi and writing a small piece of code to make it spin.

I had no idea how to do this, so I read as much as I could until I understood enough to get it going. From there, I worked on another piece of code that could read my Gmail, also a good feeling. All of these things by themselves are small, manageable items with a clear cut goal. Each of these items progressed the project forward; once you have them in place, it becomes pretty trivial to spin the motor through email. Eventually the hard work will pay off!

Looking at building this. We feed our cats only dry food twice a day. How do you determine how long the servo runs so I can make sure the cats get enough food at each feeding time?

Take a look at part three. Line 20 of the first snippet of code determines how long the servo spins. Thank you! Just ordered all the stuff to make this! If you get stuck, feel free to reach out through the contact page. Do you have a video tutorial for this? Hi Sam. Hey there. Hello Sam, thank you for this awesome tutorial.

If i use non-continuous servos, what should i change exactly? Make degrees spin and come back? I am finding some trouble understanding how you tied the servo to the knob, with a reasonable amount of food it gets very hard to turn… do you have any close up pictures that show which servo arms did you use and how you used the zip ties?

I squared off the rounded edges of the dispenser knob which made a surface that the zip ties could latch onto. Hope that helps! Hello Sam, yes that helped a lot. I decided to drill holes instead of cutting the edges and that worked well both zip ties git.

However what i am finding out is that the weight of the cat food, whose shape seems similar to yours, makes the knob so hard to turn that in my first test i completely destroyed my first servo : some gear inside is now damaged. So i need to find a way to have fewer food entering the dispenser… mumble mumble..

Thank you again and have a great Sunday! Compare the specification of yours to see if yours is way different.

Alternatively, you could purchase the same servo as me to see if that solves your problems. Hello Sam! Thanks for that great idea and howto you created here! Good to hear my post is a potential solution to your feline problems! The Raspberry Pi Zero is certainly capable of handling this project. I linked to the one I used in the post. Hi again! Pet food dispenser design using Raspberry Pi. The World Acad A short summary of this paper. Download Download PDF. Translate PDF. Thus, this microcomputer is used as a tool A new family dynamic has included a new member as a for the creation of diverse technological and electronic component, the mascot.

However, due to globalization, solutions; some use it as an educational router for the Internet people have more and more responsibilities, making it [8], high quality and low cost education [9], image conversion difficult for them to be with the animal all the time, leading from text to voice in the desired language [10], among others.

This work The application aims to solve the problem by improving the provides a solution by using the Raspberry Pi tool to design a feeding of our pet at home without the need for the owner to prototype food dispenser to improve the feeding of our pets at be at the house, which will be achieved through the use of home. In the application, 3 stages were determined: Prototype technological tools such as Raspberry pi based on our Design, Physical Structure Design and Logical Design; methodology.

So, the Prototype Design of the dispenser will making use of the Raspberry Pi. The results of this study be schematized; in the Physical Design Structure, the showed that the design of the dispenser will have a beneficial materials to be used and the structure in which it will be social impact. These results could help to facilitate feeding in assembled will be defined; finally, all the programming of the pets by establishing an automatic dispenser that would benefit actions will be done in the Logical Design.

Based on the needs of the pet and its owners, the objective is Key words :Automatic dispenser, Food dispenser, Raspberry to design the prototype of the automatic food dispenser pi. Section has been evolving as it now consists of a new member: the pet.

III will demonstrate the application of the food dispenser. Each time, this animal is becoming more humanized until it is Section IV will show the results and discussions; finally, really considered one of the family members [1], as can be Section V will summarize the conclusions. Different studies have shown that only in Peru the relationship between individual: can is Figure 1 shows the stages of the prototype design of the food considerable, as it turns out to be in the district of San dispenser that have been taken into consideration for the Borja [2], 5.

It is also highlighted that this Porres [4]. One explanation for this is that the benefit of pets prototype design can be adapted according to the various in human health and well-being has been demonstrated [5]; specifications of the customer.

It is this need to feed A. Prototype Design pets satisfactorily that prompted this study. For the methodology of this research, the Raspberry pi microcomputer will be developed, which is rapidly gaining B. Physical popularity in various applications and projects that require an Structure Design adequate software capacity as well as cost-effective one [7]. Since its launch on February 29, , Raspberry Pi has been C.

Raspberry Pi This is the stage that refers to the graphic manifestation of the It functions like a typical personal computer PC , which client's requirements for the elaboration of the physical requires an input keyboard, display unit and energy source, design, without including tangible tests. In order to minimize and as a network server, if no peripherals keyboard and errors, several layout versions are accepted in accordance with display are required [11].

Movement Sensor A. It is said that it is for people who are just getting into identify flames, noises, motions, or all other fluctuations 3D design because it has a friendly and interactive interface, occurring throughout a given space.

Therefore, sensors and it is also free to download and compatible with Windows, represent specific physical components enabling us to either Mac Os and Linux. Stepper motor requirements of the client, the materials with which the layout It may be described like a motor without brushes that has is to be implemented will be chosen. Among the most used are been specifically designed to input digital signal, so it is metal, acrylic, plastic, cardboard, wood, etc.

Therefore, at this receiving pulses coming out of the microcontroller or other stage, the main and secondary parts are identified in order to electronical circuit and working correspondingly. In addition, better organize the assembly, in addition to taking the the stepper motor can be utilised to monitor the accurate measurements of the parts. Driver Motor It should be noted that at this stage, preferably electronic It is characterized by being a motor controller, which makes materials are used in order to assemble circuits and these can it obtain low frequency signal and convert it into high current show a result.

At this stage, the materials that should go into signal so that it can drive the motor and make movement. Raspbian minimize the loss of electronic elements and to function correctly. This is the operating system that Raspberry Pi works with, which is free of charge since it is based on the Linux A. Fritzing distribution called Debian.

It also has exclusive packages for It is a software that allows you to make electronic designs in the optimal handling of Raspberry pi. It is characterized by being open source and is available for At this phase, the possible design of the physical structures various operating systems Windows, Linux, MacOs.

For this, the 3D slash tool was used which enabled the creation of a 3D sketch of the prototype pet food dispenser. Thus, the creation was made based on the requirements to meet the needs of the animal and its context, without performing complex actions. Figure 3 shows the draft which shows the division of 2 main parts. The first one is the water storage, and the other one is the food storage that will be provided to the animal at home.

The Figure 5 [14] shows an approximation of the desired result for advantages and disadvantages of each material available for the present research.

However, the Lancheros-Cuesta et al. From this, it was decided to use the study [14], differs from the present one as it did not include acrylic material due to its strength, flexibility when working the recognition of the approach of the animal to the dispenser. In addition, there is no risk of the Relevant and innovative quality for the field of study.

The fundamental pieces that will make up the dispenser are: A. The storehouse: Here all the food for the dogs will be kept; similarly, in the other division, the water will be held. The base container: This is the final container that is located in the lower area in order for the animal to consume its food.

The upper, lower and side parts: They are in charge of protecting the logical part, the electronic elements so as to prevent them from being damaged by the animal or a third party. The 4.
